**Please note that I renamed all of the birds in the Cornell University Ornithology Lab Barn Owls Cam family, in the attempt to stimulate them to think of themselves as more psychologically empowered because they are (were, in the case of the deceased) being addressed by someone who has not in any way exploited them or at any moment put them in a subjectified position. In my observations of the Barn Owls family, I noticed that when I began to tweet messages to them directly with these new names, they seemed to become more interactive with the cam, and I was told this afternoon by the birds, ants, and dogs who live in Uptown Dallas, TX and near Katy Trail, that because I took care to talk to the CU Barn Owls respectfully, Princess Leia and Prince Aladdin at the end felt more inclined to strive harder to survive. The birds, ants, mosquitos, and dogs on Katy Trail communicated with me in English voices, and body language (in the case of the ants and mosquitos, body language was their only means of communication with me except for other sounds), this afternoon that they devised a plan for Princess Leia to leave her owlet for an amount of time that was sufficient enough for the dogs, and birds, and followers on CU message boards, as well as readers of my Twitter account, to raise awareness about the tragedy that was occurring in the nest box, and to work together to ensure that the final surviving hatchling (of the original 6 that were born this season) would be saved.
July 11, 2016 Update: I called Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center today and spoke with Marcy (I forgot to ask her job title…she is the person who answered the phone twice today. I dialed 972-225-4000. When I get my own phone I will call back and ask if Marcy can tell me her position at RWRC), requesting permission to use photos of Baby Prince Aladdin (“Pearl”) on the UDAC blog, as well as the blog I am currently in the process of making for her located at: PEARLBARNOWLAKABABYPRINCEALADDINUPTOWNDALLASARTCOLLECTIVE.WORDPRESS.COM. In addition to granting me permission to use the images of Pearl Posted on the RWRC FB page, she told me that “flight cages are open to visitors,” if I were to go to Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center to visit Baby Prince Aladdin, who is also called “Pearl” by those who know and love her. I told her that I will try to buy a phone this week, so that I will be able to leave a call-back number for RWRC which will allow them to contact me in order to let me know when Kathy the director there would be able to schedule an interview with me. I also gave them the address to this blog, and I identified myself as UPTOWNDALLASARTCOLLECTIVE.WORDPRESS.COM Editor in Chief. I was told by Marcy that RWRC staff might not be in a position to give comments about their personal opinions regarding the question of ethicality in Cornell University’s decision to allow Baby Prince Aladdin’s siblings to starve to death, because the center is still working with Cornell University. I told them that since I consider myself an animal rights activist, my story is (going to be) biased disapprovingly of Cornell University Ornithology Lab Texas Barn Owls Cam Dept., but I forgot to say thank you to Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center for all the attention and care they have given to Baby Prince Aladdin, and for saving her life. I informed them about the fact that I quoted Kathy Rogers’ post (or the RWRC FB share from May 27) regarding their attempts to contact the Texas Game Warden to collect the Barn Owl family when they were in danger of starving.
June 22, 2016 Update:
These are handwritten notes from June 20, 2016 that I made.
– Inconsistencies to report about the Texas Barn Owls Cam site are the fact that the warning sign should have been posted at the very beginning of the season, or at the entrance to the website…instead, the warning wasn’t posted until the 27th of June.
I BELIEVED THAT BECAUSE THE CAMERA WAS OPERATED BY A UNIVERSITY, THEN IT WOULD BE SAFE TO WATCH, AND THAT IT WOULD TREAT THE BIRDS RESPECTFULLY.
-Talk about how I don’t think Cornell University Posted anything regarding Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center’s Concern Regarding the Owls and decision to contact the state game warden to rescue the Barn Owl Family, despite the fact that Cornell University told RWRC that they were going to “post an explanation.”
-Another inconsistency I saw is on the Barn Owls FAQ page where CU claims that Barn Owls only live 20 months, contrary to the age of Forrest, which (Owls were the first background of the UDAC blog….use that one? For the Texas Barn Owls Blog I would like to make.)
Kathy Rogers (or the person who posts on the RWRC Fb page) described in the post about him (the post claims that he is 8 years old….and not too old to coach juvenile Barn Owls in the ways of hunting)
– It seems as though the CU ornithology lab was trying not only to mislead viewers, but make an excuse for its negligence regarding the birds…as though to imply that if a creature only has a lifespan of 20 months then it doesn’t matter whether or not it suffers while alive.
Recent news regarding the Texas Barn Owls family from Italy, TX
All recent Youtube posts the Videos of Princess Leia to the UDAC blog.
Construction began fro a “Pavilion” for Prince Aladdin and is almost complete for a structure that will be used for teaching Prince Aladdin how to hunt.
Forrest is an 7 year old Barn Owl, and Barn Owls are a species of Bird which have the ability to interact with and “coach” juvenile orphans (and the offsprings of neighboring owls) who are at the age of flying and are capable of hunting.
Other news regarding the Texas Barn Owls include the fact that Princess Leia Appears to have returned to the Barn Owls after Prince Aladdin was taken out of RWRC. Shortly after her initial return, she began to have visits by another owl who they call Caspian but could be called George 2, with whom she began mating a few days ago. I believe they are now a couple.
This is a journal entry that I wrote on 6/9/2016. I write all of my journal entries to Gary Levinson, but I never send them to him. I feel that it helps me to remain focused in my writing to imagine that he is my reader. I also believe that when I dedicate my journal entries to Gary Levinson, it forces me to be more courageous, strong, and perhaps in these ways more “Russian,” in my resolution to see my purpose to fruition in the name of Ludwig van Beethoven. I am posting it here so that readers can know my thought process and how important the issue of the Cornell University Ornithology Barn Owls Cam tragedy is to me. In this journal entry I discuss telepathic conversations that I believe I have been having regularly with Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park. I also believe these conversations have helped me cope with the ordeal I’ve been going through since possibly 2006-2007.
1:30 AM Thursday, June 9, 2016
Dear Gary Levinson,
I am here at the Dallas Symphony right now, writing in my journal. I noticed that there is going to be a new female conductor here, and I notice that there seems to be someone who appeared as if out of nowhere to start cleaning up downstairs right at the moment that I began to write, almost as though his intentions, this large black man, is to distract me, but I could be wrong. All of a sudden I have a craving for ice to drink. And I am really sorry that I don’t….remember what my thought was going to be. A lot of things have been going on in the realm of the bird cams that I’ve been watching for some time now….
I don’t exactly know if last year’s Barn Owls at Cornell University Suffered the same fate when they laid eggs. At the end of this month I am going to either have to get a new planner, or make sure to start using the calendar that I have back (then I turn around and the guy is back there again)> in the yard at the house on Katy Trail. News that I have to report is that I have been talking (telepathically) to the creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, and we are in love and filed our marriage license today when I announced that I would be happy if they chose to publish all of
the transcripts to all of the work they’ve created and starred in , as part of the larger work called “The Divine Comedy by Ludwig van Beethoven.” I guess this means that later on, you will be able to work on it with me, after we meet and are married, but for now this makes South Park my legal guardians, brothers, and husbands, which is fine with me. I am trying to remember when I first knew that I loved them, I guess my very first memory of thinking of them as heroic was after I saw the September 11 episode of South Park. I can’t remember when I heard about them being libertarians. I think I saw a book by Ayn Rand referred to on one of the episodes of South Park that I watched. I wish that I could see/hear their new musical, “The Book of Mormon,” I think that I have loved everything they have ever written, although I don’t think I sat through Basketball. Idk why, maybe Wes got bored. I think I remember that Wes and I both loved South Park. But right now I can’t remember why I thought they were libertarian. IDK. I know that a lot of the episodes, if not all of them after a certain time, if not from the very beginning, have seemed to parallel my life. I think we’ve been having a great time since we’ve been talking. They have calmed me down a great deal through my many difficult moments. Right now for a moment it seemed as though there was a truck motor attempting to threaten me about the fact that there was a truck visible in
the background of one of the self portraits that I took at the Apple Store. If there was one featured there, then it was totally by accident. The birds seem to be singing to me about the fact that they know for certain that I am not in any threat of this in any way being a problem. Something that I would like very much now to discuss is the issue with the Texas Barn Owls cam that was broadcast by Cornell University’s Ornithology lab until the death by starvation of 5 or 6 owlets hatched from George and Princess Leia’s nest this year, and the disappearance of George. Luckily
(Find out if Texas has the Death Penalty in Effect….I think it Does I think it does, and that it is called capital punishment)
The one remaining survivor, Prince Aladdin, who was identified as being a girl, is currently being ared for at Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic I don’t know the name of the town in Texas where it is located, and I believe the director is out of the local area code that I would be dialing from, from any phone. Kathy Rogers ( believe, though I am not certain of this) is the person who updates the REHAB center’s facebook page, and she posted many updates on the Texas Barn Owls cam that was broadcast by Cornell University’s Ornithology Lab, including a very disconcerting message on the 27 regarding her attempts to contact a game warden to remove the owls. There are many inconsistencies in Cornell’s Handling of
the situation, for instance their claims on the Barn Owls Website that it was the University’s decision all along to Remove Prince Aladdin from the box, in his best interest because after (it was my readers on Twitter who started to watch the owl cam…) (I would love a painting of Prince Aladdin that was posted on the Rogers Wildlife Facebook page)
Princess Leia did not return to the box for two nights in a row. Viewers believed that she might be dead or otherwise incapable of continuing to feed the one remaining baby Owlet, my baby Prince Aladdin Oedipus Owl Levinson Beethoven. They said on their website that they called Rogers Wildlife because they had concluded that if Princess Leia was no longer able to take care of her baby, then it would die if she was not going to return…..and something about how the purpose of the cams, and the University’s
Stance is that they wanted to film birds taking care of their young under natural conditions. This line of reasoning isn’t very logical if it is taken into account that it is obvious to anyone watching the cam that in Barn Owl Families it takes two parents to raise a nest….
If this was the University’s position all along, then why didn’t they remove Prince Aladdin from the nest box when it was determined that George wasn’t going to return, since it was obvious that every time Princess Leia left the box she was leaving my Baby girl Prince Aladdin in very grave danger? A possible answer would be that CU didn’t want to remove the Baby from its mother….but it still doesn’t make any sense whatsoever to me how they could allow it to stay with Princess in the midst of Starvation. One facebook follower, or Kathy Rogers, I can’t remember, posted about how they don’t believe it makes sense for Cornell University to do another cam showing the massacre of baby owls….that if the statistics offered by Cornell University’s Ornithology lab are accurate, this on itself does not account for why the University should be obligated to film another tragedy. Kathy Rogers (I think it was Kathy Rogers) said in her FB post that when the game warden went to the property site where the Barn Owls are located, Cornell University, I think she said “categorically refused” to allow him to take the Barn Owls. I believe that George was gone by then (the birds right here at the DSO
One fellow bird called Zuckerman says that our hero George was killed, around the 27th of May by the CU Ornithology lab students who are also *sociopathic group stalkers who have done everything in their power to destroy me. The statement about the hatchlings being in danger of dying was posted right when it seemed it was too late for viewers to Protest CU in time, and the warning sign made it seem as though there was nothing anyone could do, which I do not understand….since the owls were not banded.
Especially since the owls were not banded, they were not property of the University only the ams belong to Cornell. Thus there are no laws that exist to give Cornell University the right to deny people the ability to intervene in their lives, especially in the case of the “Barn Owl”
Species, which seems to have evolved or developed in the presence of human beings. The Texas Barn Owls cam is no different than a pigeon cam run by a University…my argument is that CU has no claims to the possession of Wild Owls, anymore than it can claim to possess wild pigeons. Barn Owls seem to be a species that lives with/ chooses for its safe place of habitation the safe confines, the conducive structures of barns and sheds that are part of the landscape of civilized human society, and as such,
There seems to be a natural likelihood that if a family of Barn Owls Chooses to make its nest on the private property of a US citizen or resident, there is a measurable percentage of odds, there is some probability, that the private property owner is going to want to intervene, and ensure that a Barn Owl Family will receive the medical attention and nutrition it needs to survive, in cases where it is clear to the property owner that any of the owls are in danger of dying.
Cornell University never told viewers that the game warden appeared at the property where the Barn Owls were located.
I wonder if it was on the 27th that I sent the message by email to Will Mauldin of WSJ.
June 19, 2016 Update: For over six months, I have been suffering symptoms exactly matching those which define “Chronic Fatigue Syndrome,” which has made it very difficult for me to stay awake for long periods of time. It might be because I am depressed, or due to some other psychosis or untreated ailment. On top of my feelings of persecution, I have noticed that I have developed an acute sensitivity to sounds and noise pollution, particularly those coming from lawn mowers. I have developed this fear that lawn mower men have been directing the harsh sounds of their machines at me, intending to disturb me, with the awareness that I have tried to plan my life choices so that it would in every way possible parallel and follow those of Ludwig van Beethoven, the deaf composer who I have considered my patron saint since I was a small child. I have had the same paranoia that planes, cars, and trains, and the voices of people, and other such environmental sounds are emitted by my group stalker enemies with the express intention of unnerving me. I have even feared that I have enemies who have access to nanotechnology able to direct the vibrations of sounds immediately on my nerves, and directly on to the tissues of my brain cells. Because I am not living indoors, these sounds make me suffer psychological symptoms that are comparable to actual deafness (such as the kind described by Zuckerkandl, the deafness which causes suspicion and distrust of those around one).
I have noticed that it seems as though ever since I have started to try to write this blog article, these symptoms have been aggravated. It seems as though more and more obstacles are appearing in my path with the intention of keeping me from writing this article. I feel the awareness of a force that is doing everything it can to try to prevent me from publishing this account of the tragedy I saw occur on the Cornell University Ornithology Lab Texas Barn Owls Cam Website.
With this in mind, I am hoping that readers of this article will be patient as I do my best to compile the facts as soon as I am able to access them, and to analyze them to the best of my ability. It seems nearly impossible to keep a clear mind when I feel that the roof over my head was taken away by a group of enemies intending to rob me of the only currency I have: my intellectual capital, and my reputation.
In addition to considering myself a victim of group stalking, I consider myself a victim of group hazing. I feel that all of this is due to the fact that I studied Beethoven in my undergraduate years at Hampshire. I made a very valuable discovery about the parallels between Beethoven’s life and the structure and resolution of his most important work, String Quartet No. 14 in c#, Opus 131. Since then, I have expanded my interpretation of Opus 131 as being the key to understanding the meaning and political/metaphysical/religious/scientific message of all of Beethoven’s works.
It has occurred to me that the importance of Beethoven’s Opus 131 can be compared to the much hypothesized existence of Gospel Q, which is supposed to be the blueprint, or original outline for all of the Gospels in the New Testament. Gospel Q is postulated as being the outline for all of the NT gospels which give accounts of Jesus.
I support this claim by drawing attention to the unique narrative structure which defines Opus 131 by contrast to the rest of Beethoven’s works and the conversational tropes and social themes it uses to expose what seems to be Beethoven’s own systematic account of how he reaches his characteristic compositional style.
As evidence of the fact that I am a victim of group stalking, I cite the recently published articles, books, and papers which seem to have been written with two intentions: 1) to harm me psychologically, and 2) to profit financially from my discoveries. To a rational mind, it seems somewhat contradictory for these two facts to be true simultaneously, but this has been my reality for several years.
I think this ordeal is intended to simulate the experience of Beethoven as much as possible, and to perform a demonstration of how Beethoven alleges that he was able to transcend and overcome the many obstacles that existed in his life with the intention of preventing him to achieve the magnitude of what he accomplished.
BEETHOVEN AND BIRDS
THE BIBLE AND BIRDS
June 18, 2016 Update: The Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center Facebook Page posted photographs earlier this week of the special structure that is being constructed to permit Prince Aladdin to learn to hunt in.
Among the updates from the last 30 days on the Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center Facebook page is a statement by someone who claims to have called the local game warden on the 27th of May. Below is a transcript of the actual Facebook post:
Posted May 27 at 3:46 pm • Dallas TX
“I have been contacted by many, many concerned people this morning about the Barn Owl babies that are on Cornell’s webcam. I contacted a state game warden this morning that was more than willing to go get them and bring them to me. He had to get permission from Cornell to remove them. They categorically denied the request. They told him they would be posting an explanation. In my mind there is NO explanation that could possibly justify letting this family of Owls starve to death. I could go on a really long rant, but suffice it to say that the backlash from watching humans starve to death in Africa while nothing was done was considered an atrocity and lack of humanitarian aid. There is a solution. If the point of this research project is to determine that the scarcity of food causes death……I think all of the world already knows that. There are many, many nests of birds that meet the same fate all the time. I find it inexcusable that an entity like Cornell would have such an agenda that they wouldn’t intervene on behalf of these youngsters and give them a chance at life. Apparently being on camera is more important than being compassionate doing the right thing.”
June 8, 2016 Update: A Recent post by Cornell University to the Barn Owl message boards includes a video of Princess Leia (who UC refers to as “Dottie”) returning to the nest box at 5:04 AM on 6/7/2016. This video lasts for 52 seconds, and depicts Princes Leia looking around the nest box as if attempting to determine what happened to her last surviving owlet. An unidentified author associated in an unknown way with the Cornell University Ornithology Lab Texas Barn Owls Cam department made an entry dated “June 6-7, 2016” in the Barn Owls FAQ page saying that “[last] week, viewers reported that Dottie appeared to be holding her right wing in a slight droop, possibly indicating a bruise or muscle/ligament strain.” (https://www.allaboutbirds.org/bird-cams-faq-barn-owl-nest/#barn-june-6-).
The Barn Owls Cam FAQ page says that the CU Ornithology Lab spoke with Texas Bird Rehabilitator Kathy Rogers (who is the founder of Roger’s Wildlife, where Princess Leia’s daughter Princess Leia (referred to now by all the CU cam viewers as “Pearl”) is currently in custody/treatment for starvation, and abandonment by her mother) regarding Princess Leia’s wing injury. Rogers reportedly stated that if the female barn owl is still able to fly, then the injury does not warrant her capture and treatment, and it will improve without veterinary intervention.
This raises an important question about how it is possible that Cornell University could receive funding to operate a bird cam, paying staff to monitor the activities of all the inhabitants, and yet claim that the frequent observations it makes of the individual tenants in the box are not being used in any study which would warrant their banding.
Cornell University’s decision not to band the Barn Owls broadcast by the cam shows symptoms of a serious lack of investment in, and desire to learn more in the long term, about this species. By deciding not to band the birds featured in the cam, Cornell University Ornithology lab is essentially guilty of not having the best interests of the birds featured by the cam in mind. This decision on the part of Cornell shows severe indifference towards the future of the Barn Owls. It is clear to see that Cornell University Ornithology Lab does not care in any way about working to improve the lives of the birds it supposedly exists to study.
If Cornell University Ornithology Lab exists for the purpose of studying wild birds, an important question to ask is, “for what reason does this Ornithology Lab exist?”
If Cornell University Ornithology Lab had banded the Owls it has indeed been studying by virtue of the constant observations the Lab reports on message boards and Twitter (CU’s statement on the FAQ page claims that it only bands birds used in specific studies), then if Princess Leia does have a wing injury, or if she were to develop one in the future, it would be easy to locate her, and make sure she is able to get the medical attention she needs/would need.
THE FACT THAT IT IS SUCH A RARE OCCASION FOR HUMAN BEINGS TO BE IN POSITIONS WHERE THEY ARE ABLE TO OBSERVE THE LIVES OF WILD BIRDS, MUCH LESS BE ABLE TO IMPROVE THEIR EXISTENCES IN ANY WAY, MAKES IT NECESSARY TO ASK HOW IT IS POSSIBLE FOR ANY INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION TO DECIDE AGAINST ACTIONS THAT COULD BE TAKEN TO SAVE THE LIVES OF THOSE CREATURES THE UNIVERSITY, ITS STAFF, AND ITS STUDENTS, IS INDEBTED TO.
June 6, 2016 Update: After approximately 72 hours of the disappearance of Princess Leia, the Cornell University Ornithology Lab Texas Barn Owls Cam Site posted a Twitter message that Prince Aladdin (who it turns out is female) was sent to Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation for care because it was determined (by whom exactly, I could not determine….the Cornell University message board moderator did not identify the person who made the decision to call Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center) that Princess Leia might not return to the box.
Cam viewers and messageboard moderators from Cornell University reported in their June 6, 2016 update that they saw Prince Aladdin standing on the ledge for several hours in front of the cam box, and that an adult owl had flown by the cam multiple times. At approximately 5:00 AM today “an unknown owl” landed on the porch “next to the owlet.” (http://cams.allaboutbirds.org/channel/42/Barn_Owls/)
The Cornell University Ornithology Lab posted a message on the Texas Barn Owls Cam Site saying that the cams are now “offline for the season,” which means that Cam Viewers are not going to be able to know whether Princess Leia (who they call “Dottie”) will return, or if George, her mate and Prince Aladdin’s father (who Cornell University referred to as “Dash”) are still alive.
On June 5, 2016 the Cornell University Ornithology Lab Texas Barn Owls department posted an addendum to their Bird Cams FAQ page regarding the Barn Owl nest.
It appears as though the reason for Cornell’s decision to post the addendum to their FAQ page is because the University “received many questions and expressions of concern for the owlet.”(https://www.allaboutbirds.org/bird-cams-faq-barn-owl-nest/#barn-CLO-abandon-)
This addendum to the FAQ statement makes it appear as though it was the University’s decision to call Roger’s Wildlife Rescue to intervene in the case of Prince Aladdin, and that this choice was made in the best interest of the owls. Nevertheless, the manipulative tone of this addendum is presented to readers as though this was the position of Cornell University Ornithology Lab all along. If this really were the case, then Cornell University would have called Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation to rescue the owls from the moment that it was determined that the father Barn Owl, George (who CU called “Dash”) disappeared. It doesn’t take a Ornithology major at a University to see that every single time Princess Leia left the Barn Owl box to hunt for prey, she was leaving Prince Aladdin in major danger.
After the disappearance of the father owl, George, Prince Aladdin began to suffer several evening attacks by neighboring adult owls (I think that at least one of her brothers and sisters was killed by the attack of a neighboring owl…..I am preparing to begin researching the history of the barn owl family whose lives were recorded by Cornell University cams and who died tragically this season).
https://twitter.com/owliebeans/status/738214134219735040 Here is a link to footage on 6/1/2016 of a confrontation between Princess Leia the mother owl, and a neighboring owl who attempted to steal prey from her and her one remaining owlet.
Based on the evidence on this footage, it is a bogus manipulation of the truth for Cornell University to claim that the decision to call Roger’s Wildlife to rescue Baby Prince Aladdin Oedipus Owl Levinson Beethoven was made because it was the University’s intention all along to tape the owls being raised in natural environments by their parents, and not to intervene in the adult owls’ practices of raising their young, except in the case of the owlets’ inability to be raised by their parents. The only viable evidence for the University to make this claim would have existed if Cornell University had intervened at the moment that the father owl disappeared.
It is obvious to anyone watching the CUOL cam with any amount of focus, that among Barn Owl Species in the wild, it takes two parents to raise their young, given all of the dangers that threaten owlets who are left alone in their nests, including the risk that the owlet will jump from the nest and be devoured by a carnivorous animal in the area, as well as the fact that when left alone in the nest without a parent to defend them, Barn Owls are vulnerable to other raptor birds and owls who will devour them (as is the case with at least one of Prince Aladdin’s siblings).
I stated on my Twitter account that I found it personally offensive that Cornell University would find itself in a legal condition that permitted it to manipulate written language in such a way that it fraudulently used its University status to deceive viewers, donors, followers, and students, to think that just because it is a University, then its decisions are always trustworthy and its choices are always ethical. It seems that in this case, Cornell University clearly forgot that their authority and agency (the ethos part of their argument in the rhetorical triangle, on which the success of their argument depends) comes from the ethical assumption people make of them when making their donations and payments to this institution because they think they are paying the University to defend ideals that as a University they are supposed to defend.
(I NEED TO ADD MORE EVIDENCE OF THIS THAT IS BASED IN SCHOLARLY RESEARCH…EVIDENCE OF THE PURPOSE OF EDUCATION AND LEARNING.)
Additionally I believe that there is an assumption implicit in the structure of the way written language, in general, is presented to readers and laypeople: that anyone in the sanctified capacity to wield language (especially written language) is telling the truth. If the official written statement in question comes from a University, then most laypeople, or even members within the University, are positioned to believed that the details presented are accurate, and that its position is categorically ethical.
Based on the evidence I listed at the beginning of this note, the only statement that Cornell University was in a position to make at this hour was an APOLOGY AND CONFESSION for the heartless murder of innocent barn owls.
(Workers at the University receive payment from donors to the school and from the tuition money of students, checks that are paid regularly to Cornell with the expectation that it is ALWAYS doing the right thing. It is a popular assumption among citizens in this country that if a University is ethical, then it exists to promote humanitarian ideals and it will always align itself on the side of justice no matter the course of study or department that falls under the auspices of the institution.
Humanitarianism seems to the be the foundation of the Western Educational Structure. Along with the concept of “self” appears as a consequence the concept of the “other,” and one of the major discoveries made in the philosophical evolution of man is the concept of “self” as defined by the “other.”
In addition the philosophical contributions of Nietzsche and Foucault have helped us to highlight the manner in which public education was achieved within the religious context of the study of the Holy Bible, and for the preparation of citizens to take active roles in their government (such as the kind of system envisioned by Plato in his Republic).
It is difficult for me to accept that the students at Cornell University Ornithology Lab who operate the Texas Barn Owls cam are considered to be human.
It seems implicit in the definition of human being that this category of existence applies to those people who are able to know the difference between right and wrong, beings who are positioned to help those around them whenever possible.
I have a difficult time understanding how the students at Cornell University could live with themselves and go through the actions of life while knowing that they are being paid essentially as a result of the fact that the Barn Owls chose to build their nest in the box in which the University cam and its lights were set up to film their actions, actions which the University watched, and even reported on daily, such as the tragic death of every member of the Barn Owl family that was taped by the cam this season.)
MY ANALYSIS OF THE STATEMENT POSTED BY CORNELL UNIVERSITY TO THEIR BARN OWL FAQS PAGE
Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation Center posted that Princess Leia ate 4 mice immediately after her arrival at the center on 6/6/2016.
After stating on its FB page that the center intended to start a fundraising campaign, as of 5:36 PM Monday, $1,831 dollars were indicated by contributors on gofundme.com as intended to go especially towards Prince Aladdin (referred to by them as “Rocky” or “Pearl”). Many of these donations have come from the same people who posted their observations of the Cornell University Barn Owl Family on the Cornell University Ornithology Lab Barn Owl Cam message boards.
THE CORNELL BARN OWLS WERE NOT BANDED.
THE WARNING MESSAGE ON THE BARN OWLS CAM SITE WAS NOT POSTED UNTIL THE OWLETS STARTED TO SHOW SYMPTOMS OF STARVATION, AND THE WARNING SIGN SEEMED POSTED IN A WAY INTENDED TO FRIGHTEN CAM VIEWERS, WITHOUT ENCOURAGING THEM TO TAKE ACTION TO DEFEND THE STARVING OWLS OR EVEN INFORMING THEM THAT THERE ARE NO LAWS THAT EXIST TO HAVE PREVENTED THEM FROM INVOLVING THEMSELVES TO THE EXTENT OF SAVING THE FAMILY.
This is a note I wrote on June 2, 2016, the Thursday before Princess Leia’s disappearance:
ISSUE: THE CORNELL LAB TEXAS BARN OWLS CAM SITE HAS ALLOWED THE DEATH THROUGH STARVATION OF SEVERAL OWLETS IN PRINCESS LEIA’S NEST, AND PRINCESS LEIA’S MATE, GEORGE, HAS DISAPPEARED, WHICH HAS LEFT THE ONE REMAINING OWLET VULNERABLE TO ATTACK FROM INTRUDER OWLS FOR SEVERAL NIGHTS IN A ROW, BUT SO FAR SINCE I HAVE BEEN SENDING MESSAGES THIS WEEK TO PEOPLE ABOUT THE OWLETS’ CONDITION, AFTER ALADDIN’S BROTHER DIED, ALADDIN HAS BEEN ABLE TO GET SOME MEALS. MAYBE THIS IS DUE TO THE THEORY OF RELATIVITY, OR IT IS ONLY JUST COINCIDENCE.
The statement below was posted to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology Texas Barn Owls Cam Site several days after the original statement was posted to the cam site, which warned viewers of the chance that the Texas Barn Owls were at risk of starving because of weather problems that kept Princess Leia (the mother owl) from being able to get enough prey for all of her hatchlings.
“We do not consider it unethical to supplement or rescue Barn Owl nestlings, and although we will not intervene in natural processes at this nest, we certainly empathize with those viewers who wish we could do so.”
I am not certain if this sentence means that viewers who want to “supplement” the meals of Barn Owl Nestlings or “rescue” them are included in Cornell University’s definition of what “natural processes” are, and if the term “natural processes” includes good samaritans who would wish to help save the Texas Barn Owls.
The Cornell University Orinthology Lab Texas Barn Owls Cam Site Intervention Statement provides as a reason for the existence of the Cam Sites the organization’s intention to “reveal, and to stimulate thinking about, exactly what is required to be a successful individual and a successful breeder in nature.”
I am uncertain of the intended purpose of the language of Cornell University Orinthology Deparment’s (is that what this department is called?) Statement about the Texas Barn Owls when it says that the reason for the bird cams’ functioning is so that viewers would consider “exactly what is required to be an successful individual,” so the phrasing is unclear here.
CITIES ARE INDICATED FOR ALL OF THESE SITES EXCEPT FOR THE CORNELL UNIVERSITY LAB OF ORNITHOLOGY TEXAS BARN OWLS CAM SITE AS OF TODAY, SUNDAY, JUNE 5, 2016.
